Julie: I need to learn the breathing exercises
in my childbirth classes. Do they teach you the breathing?
Sue: Breathing? Forget that! With my labour the
breathing went out the window, along with my birth plan.
It is common for women to feel that despite all the
planning they have done in pregnancy, their birth plan falls apart once
labour actually starts. Birth can be unpredictable, but parents can
still maintain control in the decision-making process by arming
themselves with knowledge, understanding their options and having
effective communication with their caregiver. Learning tools that will
address those "what if's" can take the fear out of an unexpected
situation should it arise, leading to a positive experience. Whether you
are planning a birth without medication, or you prefer to have an
epidural form the outset, ParentLink classes will provide you with the
tools to be prepared for whatever happens.
The environment that is created in ParentLink's
classes is informal and relaxed. Couples are welcome to attend together,
and also women can attend on their own. You will have the opportunity
to interact not only with your teacher but also with others expecting a
baby around the same time as you. You will learn positions that can be
helpful during labour, watch videos showing different birthing
experiences, and talk about ways to handle those early days of
parenting. ParentLink classes are a great way to learn while making new
friends and building a support network.
Class costs include all materials, handouts, and
light refreshments.
