About Doulas
Will a doula replace my partner?
|
 |
 |
|
 |
| "I'm worried that
my partner will feel excluded if a doula is
with us during our birth." |
Some partners are concerned they may be sidelined or replaced by the
doula during labour. The dads we've worked with say
different! They report afterwards that they:
|
-
found ParentLink doulas especially
respectful of a couple's need for privacy and time and space together
-
were reassured by having an experienced supporter
available who is professionally trained and understands the process of birth
-
felt personally reassured, and therefore able to participate more
actively during the labour
-
appreciated having a doula to ask questions about the progress of
labour, or what was happening – or anything else!
-
relaxed more easily and were
then able to support their partners emotionally, knowing that they themselves had someone to support them when needed;
birth is a journey for the father as well as the mother, and many fathers appreciate the "breathing space" having another support
person can provide
-
were happy to have someone to share the physical work of supporting
labour – preparing food and drinks, giving massages, warming heat packs, and so on – more than enough work for two persons!
|
The bottom line is that this is your birth, and
you can have support in whatever way you need!
