| Singapore is home to an
enormous range of health practitioners, services, and support groups for
pregnant women and new parents. Whether you're looking for a prenatal
yoga class, a massage therapist, or a chiropractor who is accustomed to
working with babies, you'll find one! |
Acupuncture
This ancient Chinese therapy using ultra-fine needles to stimulate
energy points on the body is proven effective for combating nausea in
pregnancy. Also used to treat a range of complains from migraines to
high blood pressure to pain and depression.
Chiropractic
A
therapy based on manipulating the spine where many aches and pains and
other problems originate.
Cranial Sacral Therapy
An
extemely gentle form of therapy involving using the practitioner's hands
to direct energy flow. Can often be helpful for babies having trouble
breastfeeding.
Fitness A general level of fitness helps alleviate
any discomforts of pregnancy. A fit body also manages the challenges of
labour more easily!
Homeopathy
Relying on the "Law of Similars" that "treats like with like,"
homeopathy dilutes a range of substances so much that only the
"essential property" of the substance remains and uses a substance that
in larger quantities would produce the given symptoms, but in
homeopathic doses can cure them.
Hypnotherapy
A
method of bypassing our learned defenses and automatic associations to
help reduce anxiety and allow profound relaxation. Not at all the
stage-show act where people do silly things: you are in control at all
times.
Massage
Releasing muscle tension can help keep the pelvis properly aligned,
avoid ligament pain, and it feels great! Useful before, during, and
after birth.
Naturopathy
An umbrella term for an approach to health care incorporating a range of
therapies such as herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutritional therapy, and
others.
Nutritional counselling
Eating
for two means getting the right nutrients for your growing baby and for
your body which is doing the construction work!
Osteopathy A
therapy that focuses on the spine (like chiropractic) but also on
soft-tissue work such as massage and pressure-point release. Very gentle
for babies and pregnant women.
Podiatry
Treating problems with the feet as well as other complaints that can
come from foot problems including joint pain elsewhere in the body, back
pain, and more.
Physiotherapy
Treatment to restore mobility through physical means such as exercise,
massage, heat, and so on.
Psychological
counselling and Support Pregnancy
and birth can be stressful: new parents sometimes need extra help in
making transitions or in coping with challenges such as postnatal
depression.
Reflexology A therapy using pressure, stretch, and
movement, especially of the feet and hands.
Reiki
A
Japanese method of channeling the body's energy to promote healing and
wellbeing.
Spa and Beauty Treatments
A bit
of pampering can be restorative to body and soul!
Yoga
There
are many different forms of yoga from powerful and intense ashtanga to
gentle and healing svastha. Excellent preparation for labour, for
strengthening the body, relaxation, and for keeping joints flexible.
A note on our directory of practitioners: some of
these practitioners are ones our clients or our team have consulted

mouth. Appearing on our list does not constitute endorsement by
ParentLink. As with all health consultations, it's helpful to keep an
open yet alert mind, and to ask as many questions as you like when a
course of action is being recommended to you. We welcome feedback on
your experiences with these or any practitioners in Singapore.
