Traveling was obviously written in the stars for me as my own family began to move again first going from London to the
countryside in Surrey, then Tokyo Japan and now Singapore. Today I am a mother of 4 brilliant, energetic and loving children and there
is never a dull day in our house.
My special interest in pregnancy and birth started after the birth of my first child. The experience left me feeling somewhat
powerless and although I was obviously happy with the outcome, a gorgeous baby girl, it was not the birth I had envisioned. Not one to give up,
I tried again three more times and I have to say that each and every birth has been completely different. I learned from each and then took
that knowledge onto the next. Crucially, the best and most rewarding experiences happened when I felt supported and when I felt comfortable
in my birth environment.
One cesarean section and three VBACS later I am ready to step into the next stage in my life doing something I feel passionate about.
I am now training to become a doula with Childbirth International so that I can expand my knowledge and develop further skills to help women during
the most important and life changing moment of their lives…what I privilege!
My own experience of childbirth has given me a clear idea of how I want to work as a doula. I believe it is my role to support
the mother in whatever way she feels she needs. It is to provide information, give options and choices available and then step back and allow
her to make her own decisions. It is after all her birth and she is responsible. My role is to help the women to explore what she is looking
for and to help her to focus on achieving that. Providing comfort perhaps with a loving touch or just by being present in the room will go a
long way in making her feel comfortable and able. I believe in the process of birth and in a woman's ability to birth and I want to share that
with other women. I want to help them have a positive birth experience.
